SQL Blog: RS-Gaming Prac

Just a little update from last (Thursday) night.

It was around 1am and myself, soren, emir and his ladyboy friend were at the bar. At this point Soren noticed a nice looking broad kept eyeing him off. With the help of the old haaaaave ya met soren (TY HIMYM!), they began talking.

Her name was Michelle, she was a chick from Southern Cali (massive accent, sounded like Emily Procter from CSI Miami). Things appeared to be going well as the rest of us went outside for some air. About half an hour later, soren and his new friend came outside and were about to go back to his hotel room. This was until one of her girlfriends decided to come outside and completely ****block soren. One of her friends kept insisting it was time to go, as their flight home was early in the morning.

Poor soren was left there heartbroken with a semi. So if you speak to him, make sure you're nice to him!

I woke up at around 10:30am after a night out in Lan Kwai Fong, the day after emir's ladyboy encounter.

Soren and I both went out to get some breakfast and a bit of a stroll around the streets. We went down to the harbour for a bit but it was too hot, so it wasn't too long before we headed back to our rooms (mistake wearing jeans during the day!). When we got back, emir/Otis decided that they wanted to go and get some food so we were watching TV to kill time.. Flicking through the channels, I found Austin Powers 2, but it was in Chinese... and so were the subtitles... wtf? With nothing on TV, we started watching the Gamestah VODS from WCG. This killed a considerable amount of time before our prac scheduled prac with RS-Gaming at 5pm. Unfortunately though, we had to go to another internet cafe as they forgot to book computers.

We arrived at the cafe at 4pm and had a quick look inside. At first glance, the cafe seemed pretty good having about 150 computers. Otis and myself went and got some food to kill a bit of time whilst we were waiting for RS-Gaming to show up, and by the time we were done eating, it was time for prac!

Arriving back to the cafe, it became clear that this was going to be a very interesting prac, as every single one of the computers had speakers and not headphones, and it was rediculously loud in the cafe. About 10 minutes after we had setup, RS-Gaming arrived. They took some photos - we didn't, because somebody didn't bring their camera (TY Emir) and it was go time.

The first map against RS-Gaming was inferno. We started off pistol as T and were up in a 2v3 with the bomb down and pupajons computer went spastic with some language program popping up on his screen, and pretty much remapped half the keys on his keyboard. We ended up losing the round but RS were kind enough to help us out with the problems and then relo3'd. This time around, we changed up our strat and hit B instead on pistol, got control of the site and planted but lost the round due to a lack of communication. As the prac went on, it became louder and louder as more people were coming into the cafe and playing music or playing some weird game which was really loud.We were down like 6 or 7 to zero but were able to string a few rounds together and I think the half ended up something like 5-10.

We swapped to CT and won the pistol round, but almost lost to deagles. I somehow managed to win a 1v3 on eco in A that I really had no right to win and that kept us in the game. The first gun round they hit B as I was playing solo and we saved a 4v5. We traded rounds but ended up losing the map 16-11 or 16-12. RS played pretty much how I expected them to - smoke everywhere and spam through it and just running at you. REALLY aggressive play. It was extremely difficult for us to play against them as it was too hard to hear eachother, even when we were on vent. I could only hear pupajon who sat right next to me (Windows sound to max, everybody in vent turned up to max volume and I still couldn't hear them).

I could tell during the first game that this was not going to be a good prac session for us, as we're a team who sets up and reacts to what other teams do, and when you we can't communicate with eachother, we fall apart and get smashed. The following maps I tried to call strats but we weren't coordinating it properly, or people were doing the wrong thing and getting picked early. It turned from trying to prac strats to trying to win the game by doing rushes. I would call a fast strat and we would win a few rounds in a row. I would then try and call some of our slower strats and we end up losing the round. It was really frustrating getting our asses handed to us in that kind of situation as I felt if we had played RS in a better environment, we would have had some really good games with them. By the 2nd half of the 2nd map, I just wanted to leave because it was apparnt that the prac wasn't going to do anything for us. We ended up losing all 4 maps (didn't play tuscan) with our first game on inferno probably being the closest.

After a disappointing prac session, we left the cafe and headed back to our hotel at 10:30. Everybody seemed pretty drained/tired, and I was pretty much asleep, but we decided to head back out to Lan Kwai Fong (same place we were the previous night) and check our Club Beijing. We got there at about midnight and were greeted with a 300HKD cover charge at the door. Went up the lift and the club was packed.. The atmosphere of this place was awesome, and if anybody is ever in HK, I would definitely recommend checking out this club. All in all, we turned a pretty average day into a really good night.
