Is ESWC definitely a no go?

Anyone heard of any organisations in Australia looking to run this event?

Seems a shame when we have the 4th best DotA team in the world and some very competitive CS teams :(

The license for that type of event would be very expensive so unless a big company steps up no.

It might happen for Australia but even if it doesn't I'm sure iM will have a invite/get a invite to just go by themselves.

you cant get an invite for ESWC without a national qualifer

Previously, ESWC license (just to run a national) costs you $20,000. This only gets you the invite spot for the world final, so you still need to finance the costs of a national as well as the $20,000.

ESWC used to always cost around $40,000 all up. However, it has changed ownership so it might have changed a little now. But that is how it used to be.

I'll confirm that the license is definitely lower than $20,000 this year, but when you put things into perspective, the kind of money needed to run ESWC (flights and license fees) could be better spent here as the prize pool which will attract international teams to Australia.

well he did run ESAU and the Proshop for a few years, but he paid for ESWC 05 and 06 events... using his own money / sources (AFAIK)

IMO it would have to be a pretty hooge prize pool for Europe teams to come to Australia.

ive had this idea for many years, teams like sk and fnatic travelled to dubai (which is nearly as far) for EM which had a prize pool of 20k.

Not to mention we hardly live in a 3rd world country, if you timed it right, im sure teams would come here, play a torny and have their end of year holiday.

This year fnatic went to mexico, last year was thailand. Not to mention they ARE using our tax system to earn more, they should come here :)

That would be keen as GoMeZ... imo ALOT of people would donate money if it went towards and comp to bring fnatic etc down instead of a better looking site. I'd definitely donate a decent amount of money for something that exciting :D

would need to attract a number of teams, not just fnatic, otherwise it'd be a waste of money (imo)
