Invite leagues for online 1.6

Gday guys,

I have wanted to do this for a while but now i have a bit more time to set it up with the lads i just wanted to get a bit more of an expression of interest for this.

A decent amount of you i have chatted to about it on IRC but i just wanted to gather a bigger perspective. What i had in mind was an invite and main competition with 8x teams each (more slots if needed).

Standard league format where you each play all the other teams in your division over 7 weeks and the 4 top teams in each div at the end of the rounds advances to a BO3 semifinal then grand final.

We can either do free entry or we can do pay2play where invite teams would pay say $50 per team ($10pp) and main teams $25 per team ($5 PP)

The servers will be EAC protected and we can either give you fixed days like thursday night main and sunday night invite or allow you guys to organise with your opponent a time and date you want to play (must be within the week of the round)

As for prizes what we do is i either hunt down a sponsor to throw in some cash or for smaller leagues cybergamer usually does prize = rego fees + 50% of sum of rego fees. So for example 8 team invite would be $600 or $400 winner $200 runners up.

I know you lads are lanners but online comp with weekly matches is a good way to keep the chemistry and focus going between events.

Let me know what you think

Thanks
Tal

Sounds like a great idea and you've put forward a really good plan imo.

"I know you lads are lanners but online comp with weekly matches is a good way to keep the chemistry and focus going between events."

As pretty much everyone said in the other thread regarding the dice nationals - people arent opposed to 1.6 online comps in the slightest, infact we encourage them. The problem people had was with online comps replacing lan comps, and that isnt an issue with what ur suggesting. So yeh, awesome idea.

As for the specifics: Id probably say keep it relatively smaller for a first test run (maybe 8-12 teams). If you really want to do more you can, but just gotta make sure it all becomes managable and will obviously extend the length of the comp the more teams you include (unless u did like 2 seperate leagues div1/div2 with 8 teams each). As for the specific format what u said sounds perfect.

Id probs also do pay to play. The few online comps there have been in 1.6 have been free so would be good to test out something more serious, i dont think anyone would object.

Allow teams to schedule matches any night they want imo (but during that week) to give people a bit more freedom, that is unless you have admins for each match and they can only admin certain nights. The only problem with this freedom is it means that in general no1 (spectators) will know when matches are, so try to have them scheduled a day or 2 in advanced so game info and HLTV's etc can be posted and writeups/etc.

Gl with the comp!

thanks dave, just looking to bring 1.6 in line with what all the other major games are doing and offer a bit more structure to hopefully keep 1.6 ticking over and encourage some more players to keen up with at least an online league to work towards earning access to.

8 teams per comp
scheduled night (tuesday would be perfect, as wow is down, so that shouldnt be a problem for the half wow half cs players.

I would also go 1 step further and say, stuff the ladder system (with the challenges and shit, people always lose interest). Go for scheduled matches (like a football season).

Also by making it a set night, spectators will become more involved as they know there will be games on. You could get a vent party and shoutcast going. I'd happy donate a vent for that!

Also on a side note, if you need help running it let me know :D since my last nationals ive been craving to run something again asap :D

on a second note, you could also setup some 'fun betting' for who's going to win, winner wins a mouse or something.

Set Games are definitely the way !

umm on a 3rd note, you could even do

6 per division (but instead of doing it skill based you could do it state based)

Then take the winner and runner up of each and do another tourny

If you keep it to 8 weeks or less, i dont think people will lose interest and teams shouldnt die

Yeh stuffing the ladder system (challenges/etc) and just doing a straight up round-robin scheduled matches or whatever was implied in my post too so i agree with that format.

Set nights for matches compared to free-scheduling by the teams both have +'s and -'s to them so just pick 1 u think is best and stick with it. The best of both worlds is probs set night for matches but allow rescheduling if theres a huge issue and team/players cant make it.

this sounds intriguing. As Dave said we love online tournaments, but not if they're replacing lan ones. We want both :p

Sounds like a great idea. Lets hope it happens! I would say two divisions would be good, otherwise it wont encourage other teams to participate. Lets face it, there are two teams which will constantly walk away with the prizes otherwise.

ok general consensus is 8 team groups (standard anyway) with invite and main league, can also do AM if we get enough signups.

7 week season where you play each other team in your div top4 advance to BO3 semifinal (1v4 2v3) then BO3 Grand final.

P2P for around $50 a team for invite $25 a team for main $15 a team for AM (again if needed)

Naturally comp servers will run the matchmod and EAC on set nights, standards there are sunday invite thursday night main

P.S. good to see you guys get behind this with match writeups for your games and ill churn some interviews. Guys running preds is also more than welcomed :-)

Maybe something like a DICEVIP MVP prize for the season MVP of each division

MVP prize sounds like a good idea, and there are already a few people on board who are keen to do match recaps.

mmm with 8 teams in the league you have to be carefull how many you promote/relegate otherwise you get 6 teams constantly swapping

I like the bottom 2 relegation and top2 promotion thing. Brings some more excitement. Also good that it isnt just a giant ladder with 40 teams signed up and only 20 playing for 4 months. 7 weeks, 1 game a week is great imo :D keep it up! looking awesome.

Stuff 50/25/15 per TEAM. Should be 30/20/10 per player or even 35/25/15 per player. :D

Set matches in your group for the course of the group stage then finals set matches but play Double elim or even single elim.
