Yup, it's fucked, frequent hangs amongst the most troubled problems, along with low FPS considering mw2 looks better and runs better...

Has anyone run into the problem where if you press REFRESH on the server browser it disconnects your internet?
using Optus Cable NETGEAR W814WG

It's your modem. It's not "faulty", they're (CG series) just like that.

hmm, mine actually does it every time, not just 1 in X chances, it actually cuts out my internet for about 2 minutes as soon as i click that refresh button.

As I said, it's a design flaw with your modem (series) - the NAT table is too small. When it fills up, it reboots the modem to flush the table.

If you look at the modem lights as soon as your net drops, you will see that it is reconnecting to the internet (and not your pc losing connection to the router)

since it's cable, have to purchase a new modem direct through optus aswell right?

You should be fine as long as it's one of these:
Motorola: SB4100, SB4101, SB4200, SB5100, SB5101
Netgear: CVG824G

I'm not sure about that Netgear model but I assume it's just a small "upgrade" to your current one so I wouldn't bother buying one. The best option there by FAR is the Motorola SB5101 which you can get off ebay for cheap.

If you're CURRENTLY under contract you should be able to get a replacement from Optus. Just say it's constantly rebooting while you're on the net and you can't use it (just say general use but use this as an example if they ask for one).

Do you have more than one computer connected to the modem or is it just yours (this sort of determines your options)

Or another option if you like is to sign up to the "super sonic cable" which costs more (and is faster) but would include a new modem (not listed above, these are a different system).

Had countless issues in the past with optus as it actually as the net did drop every night until the 3rd techie came and fixed it.
Asked for a replace in modem a while ago and they said it wasn't possible since they only offered 1 year warranty and we've had ours for 2.

Currently have all 4 computers hooked up to this 1 modem, and used to use that SB4100 modem a long long time ago. I remembered that i tried to swap back to it before i knew how to disable the firewall etc. on this netgear modem since it kept DCing you out of CS. But the modem didn't work anymore and Optus said you need to call in a techie since once Optus is synced to a specific modem you can't change it yourself.

Yeah, you can only have one modem provisioned for your account at any time. You CAN get it changed though, I assume you need to contact tech support or whatever so they can just enter the MAC/serial for it into their computer (for bigpond it's all done by the user).

I'm not sure how the SB4100 compares to the SB5101 but if you were happy with it before, then it should be fine. If it struggles, you can just swap again.

SB5101 with a GOOD router is the ideal setup.
