it's going to fail incredibly esp with valve inviting just source players to test it reddit Q&A thread with 1-2 of the guys testing it: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/jgehv/iama_guy_who_spend_the_day_at_valves_headquarters/

yeah i'm already all over the AMA, the part about fake nades looks interesting, but the lack of 1.6ers testing it is pretty gay..
Also trippy to see other redditors on dice.

Sounds awfully similar to what gooseman tried to do a while ago with 'tactical intervention', http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ggh1h0iyclAthis isn't the first time theres been a huge "cs 2" buzz before some game event...

The fact they're _trying_ to aim at the eSports scene is enough for me. I love some of the decisions though:
CS:GO Confirmed Features
Note that all of these features are from early alpha builds of the game and are subject to change or removal from the final release. See the sources list below for reference material used to compile this list.
Planned release in Q1 2012 Matchmaking system Focus on 5v5 competitive play Both Defuse (de_) and Hostage (cs_) map types confirmed! eSports-oriented Competitive and Casual modes Ranked / ladder play for individuals and teams Dedicated servers Gameplay has elements similar to both CS:S and CS 1.6 Classic maps (with both minor and major modifications) include: Dust2, Dust, Aztec, Inferno, Nuke, Train Molotov grenade: creates area of fire that slows players crossing through it Decoy grenade: emits fake weapon firing sounds to confuse enemies about your position Bullets penetrate some walls and objects like CS 1.6 Many changes to weapons, as well as new weapons Classic gameplay: no ironsights Beta in September or October (Unconfirmed)
p.s. Tactical intervention was made with a budget 1/10000000 the size of valve's. Hardly a comparison :P

Quote from the playtester -->
"Source players and source community people only. The game feels a lot more like source, but has what I think are the nicest aspects of 1.6 as well. Unless you're hoping for a new cs game on the goldsource engine I don't understand how you can think changes like 1.6-like flashes are minor tweaks, to me that is a pretty big difference. Getting used to an engine is a minor thing compared to changing game mechanics such as how flashbangs work and enabling tagging - as it is simply nothing more than getting used to it, which you would have to no matter what new game you were going to play."

pretty keen for it if it has 1.6ish movement as opposed to source.
might turn out alright

It pretty much just sounds like CSS:CZ, not so much a full game but more along the lines of an update to CSS (i know it is a full game but just the sounds of it). Upgraded the graphics a bit, added a few new weapons, changed the maps a touch.
Majority of the game & mechanics seem to be taken directly from CSS (with all nades, maps, weapons, recoil and movement being either identical to CSS or tweaked versions of them) and literally the only things that seem to be similar to 1.6 that ive heard of is that you can spam through some walls and turn from CSS flashes.
Still a while to go so lots could change, and obviously i havent played it so just basing it off what the people who have played it have said. Hopefully it improves a lot

Valve actually have a good track record of listening to the community (tf2 is a GREAT example) hopefully the cries of the 1.6 community will be heard.

You won't see a good version of CS untill a rival company attempts to rip the game off, I.E. the HoN, LoL, DotA2 war.

Games like CS, Starcraft BW, DotA all succeeded because there weren't negative nancy trolls on the internet over-criticizing the games when they first came out (for example: LOL source engine, horrible rofl). They were simply 'fun'.
Give it a chance for fucks sake.
P.S. I'm friends with one of the CSS players that're currently in Seattle playtesting it (he used to be a 1.6 player also). So i'll get his opinion and post something credible.

CS is 2 much of an old game, it will never be as good as it used to be. Hence it being on the CSS/TF2 engine for the "new generation" of gamers, who care about graphics > gameplay. Don't get ur hopes up people!

^ they only got css players in this round of testing because they were trying to get two birds with one stone by getting them to test the new CSS update that's coming soon as well as CS:GO.
they'll invite 1.6 pros after PAX and a few other intl' events. It's been confirmed by bastian from ESL and a few others.

http://www.hltv.org/news/7322-new-round-of-feedback-for-csgoyeh they'll be getting feedback in later sessions including from 1.6 players, which is great. Apparently the majority of the 2nd day of the previous one was mainly talking about CSS changes which is why it makes sense only those players were invited for the time being
