It can't end like this

in 2007, Australia experienced the worst WCG known to man, from the bitter disappointment of 2007, ACNC emerged, this was the first event i was responsible for (even though my part was fairly small).

So, i'm putting up the hand to once again run something that can get the bitter taste of WCG out of my mouth. CS in AUS will probably end, but surely it cannot end with the lasting memory being WCG 2011.

I have two possible options to do this, once I get some more info I can post some details.

As this will probably be the last 1.6 event (who knows with CS:GO) i encourage everyone to really consider playing this event, most teams will have to pay flights / accom but I think it will be worth it

I'll article something when i know which option im taking.

I still think, given the current situation, that the best event would be one where any teams willing to pay their way would be allowed to play the competition. EG an open nats weekend that could accommodate for up to 24 teams (although I think we would struggle to get anywhere near that).

The "community" as it were is in a heap, the last remnants decaying. I think this would be a great opportunity to have a massive meetup, allow people from all over to converge and socialise, play some lan cs, get drunk and have a good time.

The time for "super serious qualify and get flown to the top of aus cs nats" has been and gone.

I say open "nats" up and make it a community event for all to come to!

Miles, your view on 07 is probably a minority because of where you placed.

But i know for the ATH guys, we got there at 9am, expecting to play the first group stage game. They had a pretty good draw and probably would of made it out of groups.

At around 4pm they tell us it's not a Double Elim comp and we got SQL (eventual winners) in Round 1. Even though we werent in the lowest seed group, and SQL got seeded #1. Ended up playing at about 10pm, on monitors that only did black and white 60hertz. And the desk space was so small 1 person had to play with keyboard on their lap.

Nice GoMeZ hope everything works out, id love to lan as much as possible :). Pretty sure Sydney pulled great numbers at wcg(How turd it was) + Melb would aswell if there was a chance for more than 1 team to qual

whatever way you do it. examples above or a normal qualifying comp, i shall attend. Also maybe giving a chance for possibly wildcard (Young up and coming team who dont qual, they will be the future(if there is any))

Possibly bringing someone with you from the community to learn how to do these big events, so we dont have to put up with rackY

yeh i meant like there was still a few good teams there and there was way more pc's and it actually had some kind of leadup with proper quals and what not. Apart from that i agree it was terrible we had to wait that 10 hours for first game aswell because we played ATH D:

i found '07s wcg to be fucking awful, but then it got progressively worse every single year not better, so id probs have to agree '07 was the best of 07-now (which is a fucking joke because it was attrocious)

#28 '10 was awful, the qualifiers were 1 week before the nats and we werent even aware of when the qualifiers would be till like a few days before they happened and didnt know if the nats was going ahead or not etc. The venue as always at Beyond is attrocious, and the quality of teams was poor (7-8 teams out of 10 all from syd) due to the lack of qualifier information. None of that has anything to do with you of course just CBN, the admins each year did the best with what they were given.

Pretty much every year from 07-10 the event felt progressively cheaper/budgetier, and there was less and less notice and information and people didnt even know if the nats was going ahead. All 4 years the venue to play at has been pretty awful too.

Less looking back at the dark years and more planning for greatness. Make this bad boy a players lan, a true community event.

If people are paying their way they are a lot less likely to fuck you around / dog / not get their monies worth etc.

A community event is the way to go and I'm happy to contribute with Team Immunity's assets if Dave/Gomez are running it. The trouble I see is a lot of teams say they'll attend and then end up cranking the CBF dial to overload.

as long as there's sufficient notice i doubt you'll find many teams will 'crank the cbf dial to overload'.

as long as teams have a few months to sort out flights/accom you'd get a good turn out.

look because we all know cs in australia is coming to a end, lets have a last national comp for the great/some baad 10+ years of australian cs.

bring the older generation which have made AUS cs and just play for old times sake... i wanna see a great event which people can attend and just play for fun and have a drink up afterwards.

gomez, dave and jim can run it and make it awesome with funding from iM, iM sure that it would be great.

plus.... you have my axe

PLUS! i like the idea of open nats

lets just say have it up in brisbane/syd/melb im sure a fair few teams will go up and play, group stages etc maybe depending on ur "ranking" play with team similar to you. like CG ladder only on lan.

Epic group nats imo, try and seed as best as possible. That way each team will get at least 3 games.

I think one of the major draw cards for this type of event is meeting up with all the faggots you've talked to / bantered / played with online. You get to go on a final mission with your cs mates, play some lan, stay at a dodgy backpackers and run a muck.

If you were REALLY scared about people pulling out etc make them show evidence of their commitment before they are registered (flights / accom / deposit for locals??).

Do a small online comp for seeding then proceed with nats, cheerios.

#44!

And seriously if this is looked at as a community nationals to bring us all together by not only the organisers but also the players, you shouldn't really have problems with people crying about seeding etc. This isn't a nats to earn a trip overseas, or a big prize or even for "best team in aus" bragging rights. Lets face it those times are behind us.
