With WCG just days away and not much (zero) content about it I thought I'd write up some information/statistics about the previous and current teams that have/will represent(ed) Australia in WCG and to get discussion rolling. The most common trend is the majority of players sent overseas for WCG have been at least twice (excluding WA's 23 stint) and as of this year the most sent team being Immunity. This years team has arguably the most international experience of any team we have sent overseas amongst the players and it should be interesting to watch how their matches unfold.

2011's Immunity's WCG Path:

Immunity have been placed in a relatively tough but beatable group stage against the likes of ENTiTY, project_kr and Nervana. Nervana should (hopefully) be a downhill battle for Immunity meanwhile facing the two favourites of the group to pass through to playoff's may pose a greater challenge considering the amount of practice the team have put forward between IEM Guangzhou 'til now. Although it would be favourable for Immunity to place first and potentially play NEXT(k23) in the first round of playoff's in the lower half of the bracket, they most likely will be playing Moscow 5 in the upper half of the bracket assuming they can push for a second placing in groups upsetting either project_kr or Macedonia's ENTiTY.

Between the team there is much experience, having played against many top teams such as roccat, fnatic, SK, alternate, lions, EG and anexis to name a few the team has the potential to get through groups but their lack of practice may see them bring Australia yet another early leave from groups. From what I know the opening ceremony is on the 8th followed by groups on friday the 9th at 12PM AEST.

This may be the last time an Australian team goes overseas to represent for Counter-Strike 1.6 so I hope you all try your best to make time to spectate!

the old redcode was a spanish team that went to pretty much every tournament, the players moved on to x6tence which have also been at pretty much every tournament (with the same players from back then)

interesting to note, the current project_kr team signed up according to WCG is:

zeff (recently joined the usual project_kr, untested player)
hiva (unknown)
termi (oldskool korean pro)
Sen (unknown)
hee (oldskool player)

So without their best players (glow, enemy, peri, solo) i'm not sure how good Korea will be.

This is assuming this is their actual lineup, and not just some random team they signed up to get extra entry cards or something dodgy.

well they havent played with solo for ages, and hee was leet if that is actually him playing, would be a big loss for them if glow/peri arent playing though (enemy was a bit average in his return).

nice writeup though bish gw

Even if that is the Project KR lineup i still think they will be good and beat iM. Koreans are crazy on their games, i bet they have been pracing 10 hours a day for the past month for this also the home soil will have its advantages. Entity according to lurppis have also been putting in heavy prac, i still cant see iM getting out of groups unless they just hit shots all day long, i hope im wrong though would be good to see them advance especially in the number 1 spot to see them take on the poles potentially.

It would be interesting to see what it might look like if you factored in the IEM's (China, Taiwan, South Korea), KODE5 (Russia), ESWC (France) results as well.

I'd expect gazR to have represented Australia more times than anyone else?
