I heard gomez said at the start of the comp it's top2 playing for auto, then unpro (the player from your team) said no it's top4. Communication error by administrators.

Incorrect, chris said he was not admining 3 times yesterday. It was also made completely CLEAR at the star of the day it was top4 (Qlimax was also aware of this and jim is not on their team). and to cap the logic train off, you cant have 4 teams playing for 3 prizes without all teams actually having a chance for playing for prizes. iM had a chance to play for 1st seed, burton had a chance at defending 1st seed, we had no oppurtunity to attack 2nd seed and we only had the choice of defending 4th seed, when groups decided the outcomes fully. So Why have a final anyway???? it was purely to appease one player who had to leave, who for that matter knew fair well that lan was not going to end by 4:30 especially when we dont start till 11:30 because the server box is locked.

Also im going to defend jim here, at no point does jim do anything with regards to admining cs comps for personal gain. Jim would make a call based on the common sense at the time, which yesterday was ignored by people whose interests were best served by doing their own thing (yes they lived the game themselves before discussions had concluded because they had a player leaving). In my view finals where never played as they weren't actually finals, either the finals have to be replayed or you take the standings from groups, burtons team getting the auto. This really should be fixed by the community, because really it stinks and teams should not be rewarded for being fuckheads or at next lan comp i will rock up when i feel like, win one game, leave because i got shit to do? and claim entitlements to win the whole competition.

Ah and to rub it in burtons team do not even play out the bo3 final they rushed into they threw in the towel after the first map.... denying everyone else from a chance they signed up for.

I think having a round robin of 5 teams then top4 ... out of 5.. get through, is a waste of time. Whats the point of having to play so many games to work out who plays who in a top4 elimination.

well we had to give kemzs team games as they paid 30 bucks.... to play cs. so they needed to have games... double elim single map.... would of worked and we would of had plenty of time to do that, until burton decided to take admining the comp into his own hands.

at the end of the day.. how should that affect you guys from going to nationals? Apart from you thinking you would of won the autobirth, coming 2nd or 3rd. Did it really matter?

it does actually, because if iM came 1st 2 flights would of trickled down. as they have two players who live in Sydney. At the end of the day i could afford to go and jim was already going but the others needed financial assistance to go and we were denied any chance to go after that.

If it was more organised it would of been told in writing just like davestr1zl did for melbourne. Round Robin then a Bo1 double elim. Obviously nobody knew exactly what was happening from the start as they each players were obviously told different stories from 2 different people. Even if unpro was the only admin and gomez wasn't. Although I wasn't there so I can't say much it just seems that the decisions were made on the spot. It's none of my business anyway but I just think it doesn't hurt to make a article on ESAU/DICE with seeds/draw/layout.

every round robin comp at elyisum has always ended up in a top2 (playing off bo3).

We needed a 3rd place so i said just make 3rd and 4th play off for 3rd (playing off bo3).

It was always top2, just like the last 5 or so comps have been (which all feature around 4-7 teams).

we (iM) were never under the impression that there was going to be another play off between the top 4 teams after the roundrobin.

after losing to burtons team, we really thought that we might not be able to secure the auto berth because if sponnys team infact beat burtons that would of resulted in a 3 way tie. we could of came 3rd due to round difference and we thought it was all over.

chris hasn't been lying about anything. all this weekend was, was a epic fail by jim (no offense). he was meant to be admining but didn't post like he was supposed to on the friday night. didn't do up the draw/maps like he was supposed to. chris took over and not everyone knew wtf was actually going on!

If I read this all correctly, then what Sponny is upset about is the fact that he thought the top four teams would be playing a standard single elim bo3 final (1v4, 2v3, winners play each other, losers play consolation for 3rd).

Instead the admin (whoever it was) simply took 1+2 and 3+4 from the day and had 1+2 play for an auto/invite (guaranteeing either team a spot to nationals) and had 3+4 play for an invite (giving them no shot at an auto).

1v2 and 3v4 as a final is a terrible way to run a qualifier final. Doesn't guarantee an accurate depiction of where teams should be seeded (in relevance to each other) and who should get an auto/invite.

Regardless of whether it was changed to suit one team's time constraints or not (which is terrible if it was), it's a bad way to hold a final.

It sounds like a misunderstanding between jim/gomez as to who was running it and what the format would be, and that jim has told sponny it would be a top4 double elim bo1 final (which makes sense given it's a qualifier), which makes it look like gomez has changed it at the last minute to suit burton's team.

But it would have probably all been avoided if CBN had been more competent in announcing qualifier dates and cluing in the people who were supposed to be running the qualifiers in the first place.

contract law, purlease.. teams pay money to play in a competitive environment governed by rules. teams are invited to play knowing what the 30 dollars will get them. The organisers/admins in return take the money in exchange for providing a competitive environment with rules. if, at anytime decisions or actions are taken that a reasonable and normal person wouldn't do then it there is a breach of agreement - or contract.

which technically would allow a refund to occur or at least a pro-rata'd amount. (compensation)

things like talking when dead is different to making unreasonable decisions that effect ppl and affect the grounds for which teams enter into the competition.

look i'm gonna make one final post on the argument, then im willing to drop it.

The qual was a total shambles, i rocked up at 10:10 and was keen to watch some cs, at this point i didnt think i was admining. If you have ever seen my comps (like AGS / and ECN Nats) you would of instantly known this because i always bring 5 x sheets of paper with the draw on it and hand them out (1 per team). I also have a red bowl and pre typed up pieces of paper with maps on them.

I had none of this because nobody had told me i was running it. That includes both Jim, Elysium, WCG or CBN.

I intially said "standard elysium rules apply, round robin, top2 play off in a Bo3". Somebody corrected me, I think it was takita or burton i cannot be sure, but they said "you need 3 teams coz their is 3 spots".

I said, "fine then, 3rd and 4th can play off at the same time to decide the 3rd place invite".

At no stage did i ever say it would be a 1v4 2v3. At no stage did i change the tournament to suit burton (proven buy paul, yaman, and kurandus) who all agree i told them before the comp (or very early, maybe first round by the time i spoke to jus).

You make reference to "when you paid you were told" I was not even in elysium when you arrived, i was downstairs with JKS buying some breakfast, when i returned upstairs you were setting up in the booth. You also didnt hand me any money, for this comp you had to pay the Elysium Staff (Another reason why i thought i wasnt running it).

The whole idea of me changing my mind to suit Burton is ludicrous. I had Breakfast with JKS (your team mate) I consider Rory one of my closest CS friends (another team matr) and Jim to be my closest friend (in or out of CS). If i was in Sponny's position, i would also be upset. Having mearly a groupstage to determine the 2 top teams of the competition, is really not enough. It would be more practical, in the future, to have a longer competition format, so we may ruleout the top team. In saying that, i was also told the same thing by GoMeZ(His described competition format) at the start of the competition, as i used my initiative to gain the knowledge of how the comp would be ran.

Although you do make valid points sponny, and have the right to complain, you talk more shit than Sandra Sully getting bent over by Lexington Steel on Jamie Olivers kitchen bench. Poor admining cost me my chance at nationals at the end of the day and you know what this is actually the second time this has happened and you know what twice its been you chris. Im sick of it and this is my first personal post as regards how i feel about the issue. The other 20-25 posts ive made are purely for the NINE other people who uve done the same thing to. The only reason why this was not fixed on the day was due to Slyix's time constraints. Regardless of what anyone was told before hand and i may be wrong in saying you lied (I was told something completly different with that of the other NINE people in the same seating structure) BUT the lack of common sense being shown on Sunday and here is really poor.

Also when were u going to reseat us for our 3/4th playoff, you weren't purely because you didn't want us to complain.... Im sure if Qlimax knew it was only top 2 they wouldn't of wanted to play in the same booth in groups. I'm detecting a trend here and these aren't hard problems to fix if you wanted to but its quite clear you never did.....

ive been royally fucked over in my years of cs plenty of times, some have cost me matches, some have cost me a nats spot and some have even cost me a trip overseas. They've fucked up this event royally 4 years running now, and somehow managed to even make it continually worse each year. tbh gomez is a top admin, everyone has off days (esp if he didnt know he was running it)

just like to point out that currently at the WCG nordic finals there is a 5 team group, top 4 playing finals all with a chance for an auto. Think natu has to go soon though.
