QLD draft lan results

Following Adelaide's lead, Brisbane held it's first draft LAN attracting an impressive 32 players last weekend.

Draft lans are pug like tournaments where players sign up individually and are drafted into the teams on the day. Due to the number of players, a 7th team was created from the lowest seed of whichever team had a bye in that round.

  Team Lineup

Australia LoGan Lions
Australia Wynnum Nerve Victory
Australia Newfarm in Pyjamas
Australia The Holland Part T-CRANES
Australia Jindalee Money Crew
Australia Lunatic`HaigateHill
Australia Made in Byron Bay

davio, steel + 3 lowest seeds
burton, vex, sai, crate, planet
peetyg, dekko, niko, invasive, kemz
benzino, knyz, tcrane, felks, sj
peekay, fez, oggerz, gomez, eddie
unpro, mikachu, messi, brenden, doug
sponny, mcf, goomba, sylix, blade

Despite LoGan Lions mixing their players on the day, having davio and steel on the one side proved too powerful for the remaining teams to overcome pocketing themselves a cool $150 for their trouble.

Standings

First Australia LoGan Lions
Second Australia Wynnum Nerve Victory
Third Australia Newfarm in Pyjamas

From the feedback posted on ESAU's thread, all indications show that it was a successful event.

Dekko who helped us identify the teams and placed 3rd in the draft land had this to say about the event:

I think it's a good idea to hold draft lans as it gives the inexperienced players a chance to play with some of the better players in the state. Though these sort of lans should only occur every once in a while. From playing with and watching some of the inexperienced players, I definitely recommend that they learn the names of different areas within the maps. Their aim isn't too far off and with a bit of botting, I'm sure it can only get better.

If there's any possibility of somebody running this in Melbourne, I'd like to add my +1 to expressions of interest.

I played in the recent CS:S one, and found it a hundred times more fun and more educational than playing in pugs and the like, even though I have no particular interest in that game.

To Dekko's point (quote in article) about inexperienced players needing to know map location names: maybe next time somebody runs an event like this, they should add some labelled map overviews to the event writeup, pointing out some of the current terminology used in Australia for anyone who wants to take the time to brush up on it. After all, it's a very rare opportunity for newer players to get hands-on experience playing with better players, and it seems silly to waste it learning where gayspot is, when that could be so easily pointed out beforehand, over the 'net.
