Today the WCG Australian champions Team Immunity, have announced that they were officially invited to compete in Beijing for the 2010 MSi 'Beat It' Cup this september.
The event which will be host to several of the worlds top teams including Fnatic and Evil Geniuses and is scheduled to begin on the 4th of September and run over the course of 3 days. All teams will be competing for a prize pool of over $25,000 USD and MSi have thrown in an added bonus of 5 brand new gaming laptops for which ever team manages to beat either of the MSi sponsored teams, being Fnatic or EG.
Follow Immunity and their pre-wcg campaign as they make their way over to China on the 1st of September which gives them ample time to settle in and hopefully score some practice games against the local teams.
KBS probably could of gone, the invites were just 'spots' at the event as far as i am aware, not paid auto's as such. Some really big teams were invited, so depending on how many didnt accept, resulted in how many 'spots' there were for Australasian teams.
When i initially inquired/registered interest into the competition (on behalf of immunity) Anne Matthews told me that an archaic team was invited (not sure if it was AUS or NZ).
It's for NZ, and we've just had a change in staff at MSI, so the new guy is very swamped with a LOT of work to catch up on as he only just got the job on Monday! Here's hoping we can still attend :)
Also fuLLi welcome to the world of CS sponsorships in Australia -- where a 'sponsorship' is an e-mail reply from some public relationships marketing noob in another country who suddenly disappears when a team wants equipment or needs help to fund flights.
If immunity can't even get luxury (and they've been the premier-sponsored team for a long time now) then I don't know why anyone else bothers with false hope and plain lies when it comes to being sponsored.
There are going to be some big games that's for sure. Also George the full line-up will be attending the event, everything has been taken care of! :) \o/
nah i think its just if u beat them in the comp u win a laptop, will be happy if we can win a game over there or atleast keep a decent ammount of the games tight!
iM (and for that matter, the rest of Australia) have never had the opportunity to consistently compete against high level teams over a decent period of time. I think the top 3 or so teams in oz could easily crack the top 10-15 in the world with some consistent experience against the best there is. It will take time, commitment and most importantly, more teams with serious sponsors - but sooner or later in a few games we will be able to throw our weight around. I'd love for iM to push that forward with their mini 'World Tour' they have coming up. (I'm probably a bit more optimistic than others)
#60 I have no doubt some of the teams here if put in europe for a few months or even weeks would break the top 10-15 list
One of the worst things is going to an international competition and then having major lineup changes or even folding. That's why teams like v300 have always performed so consistently. KBS and Immunity have had stable lineups for a while and it shows in their results.
Team Immunity have already proven what the Australian spirit can do on the international stage.
However saying Australian 1.6 has the talent pool or potential to currently field 3 of the best teams in the world even with a wealth of practise is being optimisitc. Having said that I would however love to see a 2nd Australian team making similar moves to us internationally.
It would be grate for CS 1.6 Australia, Immunity have taken the lead in proving we are more then capable of holding our own and i can not see any better team then Immunity to do that, that being said it would be grate to see KBS to do well or any other team in Aus.
I believe you mean iM are going to win this ;) Australia are a sleeping giant just waiting to get up and rofl-stomp the world. Just need the ol' Australian spirit to kick in!
i used to play Assault for a while but still in the "war" scene i been der for 2 years+ noiw just prac every day to improve my own game, but even in the pub servers the lack of community really hit it and you can notice that. i war now because i don't find pub fun but still its good for the AUS cs1.6 to give it a kick start thats why try to push stuff as much as we can because cs is not dead look around the world its still massive just Aus needs it
goodluck to iM!
Anyways sounds like they were invited anyway just couldnt make it. GL iM

will iM have their full lineup for this event? I remember someone saying it was a struggle for pupajon to take time off for wcg?
