For anyone wondering why
Archaic (formally
Parallax) weren't listed in any WCG CS 1.6 groups last week, it was because they won't be playing. Even though they technically qualified for the event, ON3 (the organisers of the WCG qualifier in New Zealand) didn't cover the team's expenses.
According to members of
Archaic, they were under the impression ON3 were covering the majority of their travel expenses, but due to poor communication by ON3 they were not informed that this was not the case until it was too late.
"A little bit more communication would have been good as I think we would have managed to the money for flights ourselves if we actually knew there was a problem, but we just assumed it was all good, it came as a real surprise not see ourselves in the draw" -
n1ck commented.
According to a rep from ON3, sponsors whom were to initially help cover the expenses of qualified teams and players withdrew their support. Unfortunately ON3 were unable to convince any other sponsors to cover enough of the remaining expenses to send the team overseas.
pretty sure that likely would have been the main reason they were been picked up by archaic too lol so they had a rep at wcg, my guess atleast
will be the first wcg in ages they havent attended lol :(
There are still some cheap flights with Air NZ perhaps the community can chip in? How much more you need to raise?
All the hotels, passes and anything else have probably been finalised.
And as I said in the first place, they weren't invited to Archaic because of WCG - they were invited because of their friendship with Boomser, who has and will continue to help them.
I'm more than happy to spend some time on the phone to the WCG guys I know but do you guys have the funding to do this or not?
On3 then tried to get us in after the draw had happened provided we could finance our own flights, we managed to come up with 6/12K mainly from simcore's bank account rof. However on3 did not manage to get us in and there was no need to raise the money.
Very disappointed considering all the prac we had done, i feel like we were on top of our game too. Thanks for all the offers to help us out, but its not required, shuda let us go to china eh ;)
Either way you guys still sound keen so I'll see what I can dig up, I might even be able to help with the finance.
WAHEL the boys are in Sweden boot-camping, what more do you want me to do? Bribe the other teams? Perhaps force Get_Right to become an Australian citizen. :D
Firstly for not doing the correct paperwork and secondly for not even financing the winners of their qualifier. If I were a rep from ON3 I probably wouldn't tell you either?
I emailed all the qualifying players and simcore for whom I had spoken to a number of times following that email. simcore was always aware we were attemtping to obtain funding, and even Pandan knew of this from an Archaic perspective, but at no point following the email had we committed to being able to fund the players - albeit our intention was always to try to do this. Due to the non-advice and non-confirmation of funding, parallax had not been confirmed in the entrant list for WCG, and as a result when the draw suddenly occurred without any of us being advised from WCG, the scrambling and panic began.
I have spoken to sent1nel, and he is assisting with attempts to get parallax in to the draw, however the ability to do this seems somewhat unlikely based on the advice I have been given from WCG directly. Nonetheless, we will try, and if that is successful, we'll all come together on the money part later.
We regret this situation has even occurred, and are just as disappointed as parallax/Archaic, however this article is incorrect in it's information, and I hope the above puts the story straight. We are supporters of gaming, and just as pissed off as the rest of you.
The article states that from the player's perspective you didn't communicate to them until it was too late (after the draw was released) that they needed to fund their own trip. N1ck confirms this in #18.
Finally I stated that ON3 had trouble attaining sponsor support, which contributed to the trouble with funding. You confirmed this yourself.
So I am unsure where exactly your problem lies with the article, since you confirmed part of it yourself and the rest is pretty clearly stated as the opinion of Archaic/px.
Bl Parallax. You guys deserved to go overseas!
Maybe it's just me, but it looks like he's saying the article is incorrect.
In addition, never at any time were the players told xLAN would be paying for the trip and expenses - it was our intention, but we had not conveyed this to the players for the exact reason that we were still confirming some sponsors, only for one of our confirmed sponsors to then withdraw. However, how a player perceives something coming across is another story of course.
Like I said in my last post, it sucks, but we have not sat around sniggering in a corner - we have pushed to get parallax/Archaic in to the Final without success, and that pisses us off just as much as you guys.
I said the players weren't aware of any potential funding issues until it was too late for them to obtain their own. This is correct, because by the time the players realised they needed their own funding, they weren't able to get enough. You informing them on August 11 doesn't make my statement incorrect, because as you can quite clearly see, they aren't able to cover the expenses. Specifying the date you informed them on doesn't change the fact that it wasn't enough time.
Then you go on to admit that you didn't convey to the players that there was a chance they might have to fund their own trip and expenses: "never at any time were the players told xLAN would be paying for the trip and expenses - it was our intention, but we had not conveyed this to the players for the exact reason that we were still confirming some sponsors"
You're admitting yourself that you didn't tell the players straight away that they might need to fund their own trips. I would label this as poor communication, and I believe it's warranted for me to call it 'poor communication' on your behalf.
