I'll start this off by apologising not providing any announcements earlier, but as you may have noticed there's been quite a lot of activity on the site most recently which takes up a large chunk of time.
Sunrise Teams
From the sunrise registrations, a few teams have applied but only two teams were accepted. I'll reiterate here again that the sunrise period was an application, not registration. There were no set in stone criteriors such as if your team consisted of players across 3 different states etc. The teams accepted were:
Immunity - gazr yaman kurandus rize pupajon
Archaic - evolution simcore infidel n1ck boomser
Finals format
The format for the finals will remain unchanged - 2 groups of 6 with the top 3 advancing (in a nutshell) to the finals which will be played at the B1GLeague Studio on the Sunday.
There is however a change to where we run the groupstage matches. Instead of the traditional group after group format where it takes up a whole lot of everyone's time and leaves very little room for error, it will be split over 2 venues. One of them will be MidCity while the other is still yet to be determined, but at this stage looks to be Indus.
Invite distribution
QLD and NSW will both receive a minimum of 2 positions each while VIC will have 4 guaranteed positions being the host state.
QLD - 2 spots
NSW - 2 spots
VIC - 4 spots
That leaves us with a total of 2 remaining spots. How it will be distributed is still in discussion however at this point in time, 1 will spot will go towards either QLD or NSW and the last spot will be up for grabs in an online qualifier.
WA & SA miss out this time around in the form of LAN qualifiers. However the opportunity will still be available to teams like OGi (formerly PGC) to qualify online. There is a possibility that both spots will be up for grabs in the online qualifier which will act like an LCC.
Qualifier dates
The first set of qualifier dates are below. Please note that both QLD and NSW will only feature 1 qualifier with 2 invites. Depending on the signups to the first qualifier, a decision will be made on which state to give the extra invite to. Victoria will feature a minimum of 2 qualifiers.
VIC Qualifier - 17th October @ MidCity
QLD Qualifier - 31st October @ Elysium
NSW Qualifier - 28th November @ CityHunter
x0x0 gossip girl
ps. what a fucking joke
George, this is indeed 2 invites - no Autos ?
Either way, can you please add the financial particulars of the prizes, i remember a few suggestions, but cant remember the exact breakdown
my last exam is Sat 27 November
and the nsw qualifier is on the 28th :s
here's hoping CG will do something in the near future
Looking good btw cant wait.
instead of giving another spot towards qld or nsw why can't we(WA) hold a LAN qual?
tbh ur just killing off WA and SA
(note: the following is my take on things, as i have had a less of a hand in organisation for this nats than last years, but have still offered my opinions/advice to beedee where needed, so if im wrong about what i say here and he wanted to further clarify or correct me then yeh).
With a relatively smaller team limit at the nats (12, as opposed to say 16 or 20) one of the goals was to try to get all the best teams in attendance (which was another reason why there was a small shift to focusing on getting 'autoberths' to all syd/qld teams so everyone is able to actually attend). With only 2 guaranteed spots (atm) for syd/qld, there will still be many good teams who will miss out from those qualifiers, and thats still assuming that there are no upsets too.
Giving an invite directly to WA isnt really giving one to WA, its giving it straight to PGC (or whatever ur team is called now), and while u guys had a great performance at ECN, so did alot of ~3/4th ranked syd/qld teams at pretty much all other nats, and they all have many more results to go off against other top aus teams.
My personal opinion, which i feel very strongly about, is that the 3rd best team in either syd or qld would, much more often than not, be better than you guys - your or other's personal opinions may differ, and thats fine, but even i would admit its impossible to be correct one way or the other about this despite how strongly i feel about my opinion. The whole situation with the recent CG black and ur team dying and massively changing lineup definitely didnt help things either.
For all those reasons, thats why theres an online qualifier with a spot (or possibly 2 spots as said in the article) - where you guys are able to actually earn a spot at the nationals and hopefully prove us wrong and show why you deserve to be there, while still not restricting other top teams from attending that may miss out at their quals.
If the nationals was 16 or 20 teams and had more of a 'community' focus then theres almost no doubt WA would have a qual, but we didnt want to do that again as ECN was still fairly recently and its always good to have a mix of different styles of tournaments. This nationals hopefully will bring in the top 12 teams from australia, where every single team will have atleast some shot of taking out the event (obviously some more likely than others). I hope you guys are able to prove you deserve to be there, and good luck with the online qual.
thanks dave for clarifying things abit more clearly for me. will this online qual have home/away games? clearly we will be disadvantaged on 100ping?
also how is it giving it directly to my team? it is a qualifier any one can win.
And any objective player would definitely agree giving an invite to WA is giving it to you guys, same as giving an invite to SA is giving it to tzunami, you cant really argue against it unless either of the scenes dramatically change.
If giving an invite to WA doesnt mean essentially giving it to you guys, then really theres even less of a reason to hold a qualifier there as literally no other WA team would come close to being competitive at a 12 team aus nats, let alone a 16 or even 20 team one.
4 - vic
2 - qld
2 - nsw
2 - lcc
where are the last 2 invites?
*EDIT* oh roffey iM & archaic :D
No other WA team has accepted one in the past what, 4 years? And only 1 of the 4 invites on offer in the past 3 years has been accepted.
Even if you guys werent to win the qualifier, which hasnt happened in years, the invite would still probably trickle to you guys anyway. Whichever way you look at it an invite to WA is an invite to your team.
and dave, saying theres noone in wa that can compete at nationals without even presenting an opportunity for players to sign up (last official qualifer we had here had most of merge/dna show up in one for or another and also aip)
with the exception of the last few years we have always sent a team to national events and always done well, at the very least better than expected and now were expected to qualify online where no matter what we have delay and as much as you easties whinge about rego, its twice as bad for us.
dave/gc/dna have always run the qualifiers if the numbers register for it, we should have the opportunity to test the waters and if we can get an 8 man qualifer then we should be allowed to run it, otherwise the online route should be a last resort.
you guys are faggots
But yeah, this looks really keen and im really looking forward to it :D
it's like running a qual in ACT these low experienced teams make the trip to ACT just so they can swindle a invite to nationals.
there are much better teams in sydney and bris 96/vp/emir/wuxia that will miss out because of the format.
i know its abit crap that WA dont get a chance but just wait it out till next ECN
uprising 2nd
then i found out that iM have auto soo yeah my bad
May as well just have a 4 team nats if that's your attitude.
And #78 thats not the reasoning for the no WA qual, post #30 is the reasoning. With only a 12 team nats, one of the goals should be to have the best possible team list (ie no 'filler' teams as u may normally see in a 16 or 20 team nats) - and taking away an invite from the 3rd place syd/qld teams when they, and possibly even 4th/5th, are at the very worst equally-skilled to that of WA's best wasnt really justifiable.
Thats sorted that problem, lets go with the real dicenats now
You're acting like you guys dont have a chance to qualify - you do, and it may even end up being 2 chances as opposed to 1. All thats happening is that for you to qualify it will be alot harder than it normally would be, and its like that because its in the best interest for this particular tournament.
You didnt seem to have a problem with online competitions a few weeks ago when CG black was announced, infact if i recall correctly you quit cs and ur team died because of how badly you felt you could compete in that division, so i dont see why online should be a problem in a qualifier with even lower quality teams. Will it be hard? Probably. Does it suck? Yeh im sure, but unfortunately thats just how its got to be :(
#89 Its hard to show consistency with 80 ping online and when you dont recieve any chances to qualify for LAN
So in conclusion after reading all the comments, Fishballs' team is not considered to be in the top 12 thus should not be competing. I completely agree, I mean, they didn't even make it into the black league!
so ya you beat them but you beat them 16-14 and there's a chance they won't even be there, who will be there is kBs type teams who well, beat you allot more convincingly
*still tho just play the online qual
You guys forget that we pay 5x the price to get over there, and even when fbz posts showing how keen we were to come you still shut him down. What happened to people encouraging potential instead of just being smug fucks.
And tbh I don't think fbz is causing all this drama just because he wants to attend a nats, no, we would go there because we know we can make an impact and that's exactly what you won't let us do.
Do you see us having a sook?
So things dont work out the way you like, well tough tities. You still have an option to qualify. No offence fbz and to all your team you guys are a great bunch of blokes but you have to understand that 1 good placement doesn't mean your going to get babied.
thats the way the cookie crumbles.
Im not denieing that you are in a bad position, what im saying is things dont always work out the way you like. I could sit here and cry that our team deserves an invite and then i cld tell you how many times our teams have placed in the top 5 but im finding an alternative for our team. If your alternative and ONLY alternative is to play an online qualifier. Play the online qualifier and smash every team. Dont come here and sook about your placings and how WA deserves this and WA deserves that. I know so many more teams who deserve more.
i can play for x5 at lan if needed :)
If the teams you think should be in nats, maybe they should of won their qualifier.
The fact that WA doesnt even get a chance to play a qualifier is just really sad, and I expected more from you beedee when you were asking me what the best qual for WA was.
Also Archaic.NZ shouldnt be allowed to attend because they're not an australian team at an australian 'national' event.
WA teams do have a chance to play a qualifier, it just so happens to be a qualifier that other-state teams also are able to attend (which in reality, is no different to how it is at lan quals in the past couple of years), in order to ensure that the best possible 12 teams are in attendance and no top teams miss out.
it will be 2 teams my team and the other team will be the natives and they will play cs in exchange for some beer
does that get a qual?
and for people who think i dont have credentials um WCG 10 thanks
WA does have a chance if a online qual is runned but x5 will be playing for that spot too
You're giving 4 invites to Vic when only 2 to Syd and Qld. Archaic.NZ probs shouldnt be allowed to attend but the management is Australian so you can make your own mind up.
I have no problem except that you're shutting out teams with some good players in WA. Even if we came last it wouldnt matter.
Did WCG say to Aus not to come because they wouldnt be competition? No, instead iM attended and got dominated.
If we gave 1 spot to all of WA/SA/NT/TAS/ACT we'd be left with very few teams for the main states, and fact is there are more higher quality teams in the main states. As ive said previously several times, due to the smaller team limit one of our main goals was to ensure that all of the best teams attend. This is different to perhaps the recent ECN which has a more community focus with 20 slots for all different states.
The reason VIC has more spots is because it is the host state, same as WCG in Sydney has more sydney teams, and ECN in had more QLD teams. Another bonus on top of that is that a VIC team attending the event is completely free for the organisers, compared to other states which have to be gifted 'autoberths'. It is always purely the host state's qualifiers that earn any kind of money for any nationals, while at the same time they are not rewarded with an interstate trip. The least they should be rewarded with is an extra slot over other states.
We're not shutting out WA teams, nor SA, ACT, etc - if they want to attend the event they can attend the online qualifier like all other remaining teams. The only thing we're shutting out, as blunt as this is going to sound, is 'bad' teams, as everyone team attending will have to earn their spot, and it wont be easy for any team regardless of what state you're from. This is done in order to ensure the best possible teams and highest quality of competition are attendance in the relatively limited size national competition. I'm sorry if this doesnt work out for you, i really am, but there will undoubtedly be more events for you to attend in the future.
I can't believe WA even think they have a right to attend the nationals, whats next will they want women to be able to vote?
Although I don't exactly agree on the "taking invites away from other teams" argument thrown about by the organizers, it's obvious they're not going to change their mind. You're just going to have to cop it on the chin!
IMO we should be ENCOURAGING a (proper) team that's willing to pay out of their own pocket to travel across the country and represent their state. With Australian CS dwindling I don't see how it's productive to deny one of our states representation in a national competition because you believe it may lower the quality of the counter-strike..? I mean... seriously?
But yer, qual online and prove every one wrong!
I am searching a team for the upcoming competition.
I won the national WCG qualifier 2003 in Germany and won a couple of tournaments. If you have any questions about my playing career I am happy to answer it. My nickname is Sodayi and I live in Sydney - Paddington.
Steam-Acc: sodayi@ocrana.com
Please no rookie teams.

Providing the information I have is correct...
Why are we excluding a team that is prepared to pay its own way to the event? I must say its very similar to the Archaic.NZ attendance. Obviously there's a skill difference involved as well - but if they are paying their way, shouldn't it be considered the same as having an extra invite to WA (zero cost)?
It gives the event more money to pay for teams that do struggle to get there if you make them pay some sort of fee similar to the sunrise that iM/Arc have paid.
I was under the assumption 1.6 was focusing on growth at the moment? :\
Just my 2c (if indeed said WA team was prepared to pay their own way)
P.S. Why would you say a NZ team wouldn't be allowed to attend? NZ is practically a part of Australia haha. If we had any other international team wanting to attend we'd let them at the drop of a hat (provided they were at least decent)
FBZ you gotta remember 12 teams nationals
1 online qual just play in that
and if your too laggy well bl thats life
At the end of the day, EMC placed second at the first VIC qual and you're giving VIC 4 spots and rejecting a WA qual based on a "quality rather than quantity argument".
Based on your arguments Dave, what's the point in even having qual's just invite the 12 teams you think are the best, because that's essentially what you're doing anyway.
#153: Victoria has more "invites" because it's the host state so not only does it make sense to give more spots, it also works to our advantage because those team's registration fees are funding the other state's flight costs.
It also seems that for placing second in this qualifier you're rating VIC a state with quantity and not quality. If you looked through the registrations there was an abundance of absents from all the top players. Like ted said, xqR, v300, VHM etc.
So yes in the end EMC placed second but had the other teams been there the most that would've changed is which team got the invitation and obviously the placings which wouldn't have mattered since tbe format would've changed etc.
just my 2cents.
And #153 teams still have to earn their spot at the nats, and we still want to give as many teams as possible atleast a chance to qualify, or atleast attend qualifiers and just play and have fun (and maybe cause some upsets).
Ironic as your not giving us a chance to even run a qualifier period, which comes to no cost to dicevip or any of the sponsors but force us to qualify online, where almost every online event ever run in Australia has been rampant with issues and the ping issues alone is unfair. Fact of the matter is, DNA and MERGE do no exist anymore and despite the performances of PRG and PGS at home and at nationals we will never be seen in the same light as those players you consider to be the best in wa, obviously neither of us have achieved or come close to what those guys did but i imagine if some of the dna guys made a mix team and wanted to go to nats, you would find them a way to do so.
Australia's number 1 problem is that the old stick with the old and snub the new.
And as for if DNA players were to make a mix and keen to play, i would still stand by and support the current decision that has been made (not that it was really me that made it in the first place, but i definitely support it and all im doing in this thread is explaining the reasoning behind the decision).
If you can't see my reasoning, as an organiser that doesn't stand to benefit from this, please put forward your plan on how invites should be distributed and I'll tell you why they won't work.
2 qld
2 nsw
1 wa - no financial assistance.
1 online
2 sunrise.
BaM.
see.. the unfairness
<3
+ look at SA/ACT pings then have a look at ours
The lan center can be be booked any time, there are currently 3 active teams in wa, 10+ players not active that have expressed interest in playing the qual and the sourcers never miss a chance to rub a win in our face.
no dice gettit? :D
