This article will serve as the coverage for the qualifier on the day, however i will piggyback it now to include some extra information regarding the format and timing of the qualifier.
Format
Will basically run like a mini ECN, (groups into Bo3 single elimination bracket) what that entails exactly is:
- Games will commence at 10am.
- Groups will be played at the same time; a Lunch break will be scheduled after the Groups have been played.
- Teams knocked out are free to continue and play against other teams as long as they don’t become a nuisance for the length of the competition or if the café reaches capacity.
- 2 Groups of however many teams signup (at this point 1 group of 3, 1 group of 4).
- 2 x A seeds, 2 x B seeds, 2x C seeds, 2x D seeds.
- Each group will be drawn on the day (usually around 5am, so i have time to update the articles and print off schedules for the team, and ensure the competition starts as soon as possible on the day).
- An independent map rotation will be drawn for each group (all 5 war maps in the pool).
- Sides will be chosen by a coin toss.
- Top 2 teams from EACH group will go through to a single elimination bracket. 1st place vs 2nd place and vice versa.
- In the event of a 2 way tie, it will go on head to head.
- In the event of a 3 way tie, unfortunately it will go on Round Fors (of the teams included in the deadlock) there is not enough time to run a deadlock playoff.
- Maps for the elimination bracket will be done by a silent veto system (each team removing one and then drawn out of a hat to determine order).
The explanation of how format came about is below, the TLDR is what you just read.
Rationale
For the last few competitions, Queensland has usually had between 5 and 7 teams which as a result has forced the format to be a round robin with a top 2 playing off for the prizes. Like any format, it has its positives and negatives, it was great for scheduling, you basically just found a team and played them, eventually working itself out and the top 2 playing off. However, it became apparent that the quality of CS deteriorated towards the end of the day, and sometimes the final ended up being an endurance test. With this qualifier looking like being 7 teams maybe 8, we were looking at minimum 8 games maximum 9 being played in the day, which for me is about the absolute max you should be playing. The second problem with this is it seems top2 isnt really a fair indication of who were the better teams, as often it would come down to 1 map, And with looking at the teams registered, the possibilty of a 2way, 3way or even a 4way tie is quite high. So doing a top2 which would most likely come down to 1 map, and then rounds for/against didnt seem very fair.
So for this reason, the Brisbane Dice Qualifier will be doing 2 groups, top2 from each group proceeding to a single elimination best of 3. This allows for a minimum of 7 games of CS to win, or a maximum of 9 games if you win your elimination games in 3 maps each.

Are u aware gomez that i have been overseas for an international event, and participated in it? btw it had tuscan in it. Ive been around this game probably 3 times as long as you have in terms of "the LAN scene". Looks to me like you're trying to be a smart ass cunt stating that tuscan is played in international events overseas, we both know i have far more international experience and knowledge than you. in fact it would take far too long for you to even catch up to me in terms of how cs should be played and why tuscan shouldn't be in the map choice. But since you're an admin of some sort, and I honestly have no idea how you manage to acquire it in the first place. NAHHH cuz, I am not aware that tuscan has been played for the last 5+ years in major events worldwide. Didn't know DiceNats2010 was a prestige major international event.. I'm just going to make a little short note for you now gomez.
Gomez, U know that no team in australia practices tuscan, even when its played in WCG (the only event in aus that grants overseas trips). Teams practice it lightly a couple days/week b4 the nats, but thats about it, because its WORLD CYBER GAMES, comes around once a year if that (THE 'ONLY' INTERNATIONAL EVENT FOR AUSTRALIA). Nobody will practice tuscan for some Aus hosted nats when the game is almost dead. Honestly I think you're either a total fucking idiot for asking me that question or you're ignorant. Maybe you're both.
Pnv is clearly just 2 n00b to play them. Thoughts #1 player in australia?
Regardless of its use in international tournaments, tuscan has been used in every australian tournament for the past 3 years atleast, including every single national (AINC, WCG, KODE5, DICENATS, ECN, etc, since 2008). Its also been used in every single local comp i'm aware of in all 3 major states, aswell as every online comp (however few there may have been) since atleast 2008, if not earlier.
So while you may be the connoisseur on international CS that you claim, as you pointed out - this is australian CS we're talking about here (dice nats). Teams should expect tuscan to be in any rotation of any aus tournament, and whether or not they choose to ignore it and not prac it, or embrace it and prac it regularly is completely up to them.
8============================================D
even with only 6 teams, it's still
2 maps (groups)
3 maps (round 1)
3 maps (final)
minimum 6 maps / maximum 8 maps which can take 8 hours as it is, with a 10:00 start which will probably roll closer to 10:30 it could finish at 6/7pm as it is.
id rather keep this, and give teams a bit of leeway on setting up and warming up then making the schedule more cramped and have to force live matches.
Its gone from 1group (top2) to this, i'm not pushing it even further, also, we haven't had a comp there for a while, so it might not run as smoothly as usual. fingers crossed
sorry lads :( scores are getting updated fast :D
lineups
eM - snakewow, sai, peetyG, gonzo, knyzor
gearFactory - sponny, peekay, jks, benzino, unpro
MSi.Team2 - davio, messi, boomzer, panov, spitty
Uprising - burton, takita, goomba, sylix, aspire
eM are all 1.6'ers so are team2
but i think they have no switched numbers, since 3 beat 2.
and looking at the lineups its pretty much just a wuxia mix more than the arc css team
I'm sure they'll have better luck in the future
don't let it get you down boys
CARRRRNNN RORY
ps. get an education
ZZZZzz great day ty for comp ty to all the people that shouted me food LOL etc ps im the best i deed it
i think the format worked very well, and looking for to nationals and maybe a 1 day comp before than to fill in the gap
