With WCG Australia just around the corner I thought its about time for the Melbourne CS community to start becoming more active. Being almost 6 months since the last local comp (the longest Melbourne has been without a lan comp since I can remember) I wont be expecting a huge turnout, but teams will be able to have a lot of fun playing numerous matches in a round-robin format for a cheap price to get back into the swing of things!

looks good striz
So long as the events all in good spirit, it sounds like a great thing to do and not something like 'a day of playing IPGN'
May be able to squeeze something in before the first WCG qual depending on how things pan out...
Anyway, hopefully putting a team together with jakr for this comp.
Good luck have fun, nice work Dave
Also if individual players who are keen to play want to pm me or just say so in this thread ill add ur name to the bottom and make a list of 'available players'.
edit: didn't see drag0n/strozL
it'd be better i rekon, get everyone involved first in a big draft tourney, people might find refuge in new teams after that if they play with eachother on LAN
Make not of that please.
dreamR: u gunna match that?
dreamR: or nah
GUTS CHIZ.mb: no
dreamR: smart move
GUTS CHIZ.mb: ill triple it
Lock it in.
LOL @ Jakr
my steam id : wlia15 add me
I will, however, continue to take regos for teams and have them as a reserve, and if theres enough teams regoing i will consider extending the team limit (although it may mean the format will have to change).
Also if a team pulls out the first reserve team will obviously take their place, so dont hesitate to keep regoing guys
10am 'start'
Given delays and Melbourne's notoriously slow start would most likely be around 5-7. (Hour lunch break too?) But can run smoother, had comps finishing at like 4-5 before...
What dragon said
GIVE EM A RUN MATE
8TRR = 7 games, and since Dave has said '+ Final if time permits' it would be 10 games MAX as well... But since Dave has added that time factor, he obviously wants to keep the day nice and short... It's a fun comp after all and a Round-Robin is the ideal setup because if you don't play out finals, you can still figure out a winner. Groups of 5, you're going to have to play finals and that will most likely drag out the time.
It comes down to how many PCs MC can give Dave for the day and what he really had in mind for this comp. Since it's only a $15 entry, Dave needs to keep the costs down. If we were to include more teams, and not saying we would, but entry would most likely need to be bumped to accommodate for more PCs and time. The possibility of a 9TRR is there, if we just say we won't play out the finals, it will be a long day tho as 8 games of CS is draining for anyone.
I personally wouldn't mind if rego was bumped to $20 if it meant including Serverdown and making the format a 9TRR.
1. Im not sure if i can get 10 more pc's (and another team regod),
and 2. I havent been to mc in like 6 months so im not even sure if theres 10 rows with fully working pcs and in the new layout that will be good to use on the day.
Similar problems with a 9 team round robin occur (more pc's etc), but on top of that it extends the comp by 2 hours (not 1) due to 2 extra rounds needed to be played because of byes. Assuming no delays, 8 team RR would finish @ 5pm, 9 team RR would finish @ 7pm. (MC generally like us to be done by 5-6pm, but its a lot easier to weasle extra time if its just 2 teams left playing a final as opposed to 9 teams all playing taking up most of the lan).
I'm not a fan at all of limiting team numbers either but i just wanted to gaurantee teams a ton of games for a cheap price (+ i didnt think it would fill so quick). I'm really not interested in changing the format to double elim and i dont think teams would be to happy about it either.
I'll most likely wait another week or so and see what happens with registrations, but if no team is added/removed it might have to stay at an 8 team RR. I'll look into a 9 team RR though and see if we can get the pc's/time but i really cant make any gaurantees unfortunately.
If xpl (or additional teams that rego) end up missing out i'll try to hold another similar comp a few weeks after and gaurantee them a spot in it.
That being said, if any team does not intend to show up then PLEASE let me know sooner rather than later so xpl can play. I will be running another comp hopefully 3-4 weeks after this one with the same format and will gaurantee xpl a spot in that if they miss out.
As for the draw, ill post an article with it (if the site works, havent tried posting an article so unsure), but everyone will be playing at 10am all through the day with (with a break for lunch). The map rotation will either be drawn out randomly on the day or ill do it by veto's if it looks like we're on time.
Im also unnable to edit the current article (due to site borked), but here are 2 lineup changes just letting people know:
PVT - x-rey, kore, hans, albz, ramuss
sparra - Markk, gazR, nezzA, toonz, nameci
Shelbehrahm has spoken.
I wouldnt really be happy with letting either PVT/xpl miss out caus its shit either way, so i spoke to the MC owner again and ill be changing it to 9 team RR so everyone can play.
Because of this
1. i cant gaurantee the seating will be any good as i have no idea of the layout or which rows work/dont, but there apparently should be enough room but several teams will be right next to or opposite another team (this probably would have happened anyway so it should be fine)
2. ill need to start / force games asap or else we'll run too late, ill be a bit lenient with the first round and hopefully have it lo3'd by 10.30 at the absolute latest, if teams rock up late though expect to be fucked over (looking at u montana :P)
3. there will be no final, winner will be decided off placing in the RR (with ties resolved by head-to-head, and then round-difference after that).
4. i wont be able to do a designated lunch break caus theres no time, but each team will have a bye but for some teams it will be right at the start and for others it will be right at the end, so a lot of teams will have to play a ton of games in a row. If we're running amazingly on time ill be able to do a really short one.
