WCG has released the groups for the 2009 World Fina, taking place from the 11th-15th of November at the International Convention & Exposition Centre in Chengdu, China. It would seem the curse on Australian CS is to continue, with Sequential (SQL) being placed in Group C, which has turned out to be one of the toughest groups of the competition. SQL have been pitted against some of the best teams on the international scene and will face off against mTw, PowerGaming (formerly known as CrackClan) and the veteran outfit from Russia, Virtus.Pro.

With that being said, SQL is still a chance to make it through the group stages. Last year Immunity demonstrated that in terms of talent, Australia isn't as far behind the rest of the world as some would have you believe. Certainly we have the talent to go toe-to-toe with the big names of international CS and SQL are a team with as much talent as any other in Australia. Here's hoping that SQL can emulate Immunity's WCG performance last year and make it through the group stages and even go one better by making the top 8.

It seems that our friendly New Zealand neighbours Parallax have had better luck with their draw and they have a big chance of making it out of groups. With several groups featuring several big names, Parallax have managed to land themselves in a relatively easy group and it should be entertaining to see if they can make it through groups and how they fare against the other teams.
