i don't mind playing :D anyone need a 5th?
hfhf
if you were an amateur team, honestly how many games would you get in double elim? my guess is 3-4 (some might only get 2 games).. No offence to these teams but its just not value for money when last week it was $20 for 5
imo make it groups atleast !!
and as you can see the teams that are signed up now, will win atleast 1 game
The division 2 'value for money' comp is over. It was announced weeks ago that there was going to be a follow up non-amateur competition open to everyone for the standard registration price of $30 PP.
The purpose of this competition leg is to reward teams that perform and mimick a qualifier scenario where you guessed it, the double-elimination format is used*. If you're not prepared to put your money where your mouth is, then don't sign up. There are players and teams who were blocked from the amateur competition waiting to play this.
*If we fall short of 16 teams and there's support for groupstage from the teams that signed up, we'll switch.
groups then please?
The $30 rego is also the 'normal' amount, and will be that or similar at the majority of events. The $20 comp last week was just a once off thing to entice newcomers to show up and get some good practise but its pretty disappointing to see that (or so it appears) none of you were willing to put it to good use, otherwise you would have been all over this comp.
With that being said, i personally dont particularly mind what the format is, but hopefully alot more of the div2 teams will rego regardless of what it is.
also can slut if anyone needs
cant promise ill get any kills but dw she b sweet lol ;)
Young&Dangerous

btw i can probably slut on sunday if anyone needs.
/End rant
just excusing the few teams that are :), others should sign up now
Any competitions that restrict teams/players playing in them in these times are one of the worst things you can do, there are few enough teams as it is without splitting the community further into seperate, smaller, groups. I could understand it, however, it if were an infrequent thing that is actually being put to good use (which it obviously isnt).
What's also bad is it conditions the div2 players to expect group stages, expect 5+ games, expect $20 rego, and expect a whole bunch of things that shouldn't reasonably be expected, and as such its quite likely that this tournament will have to change format because of it.
I completely agree with what teddyt said in #74/#75. While you may feel it is expensive for 2 games (i don't know why you all think you would only get 2 games, you should be more positive about how you will go! and the more div2 teams that sign up the more games you will play as you will all end up playing against each other anyway).
I can also guarantee you that winning 1 single game in a double elimination tournament that actually places you higher at the end will give you more satisfaction than winning 1 single game in a groupstage where the win counts for nothing. I played for years rocking up saturday to get smashed by immunity 16-0, then have a tight competitive game with a lower skilled team, then come back sunday and play 1 single game against a medium skilled team only to most of the time lose. But each win was an awesome feeling and it was an even better feeling to improve over time with placings and results.
/also ends rant.
"If your not here to improve then no point playing in the first place"
lighten up a bit mate it's just a computer game lol we're all just here to play a game
But the bottom line is, do you think people today would be willing to follow the same path? and if so, would enough be willing to stick around in a new team?
i can't seem to think of a lineup that has stuck around every single comp and placed bad every comp.
all in all, its a tough choice. div2 comps cause inactivity from the pros (the people who weren't allowed to play in div2 comp) ... and div1 comps cause inactivity of the new comers.... Dunno where the balancing line is/could be.
wow i seriously talk too much
naturally bad teams get better instead of staying bad but we don't seem to have any teams that stay together from bad->good or bad-> bad lol
Also the road to improve is far far easier today because, as you pointed out jing, there are far less serious teams, meaning you can work ur way up to the lower/middle ranks far easier and in less time.
I reckon $30 bux rego and groups is reasonable. Also $25 rego and double elim is also reasonable.
I mean I have no trouble hopping on a plane and going to Melbourne for a weekend but man it is hard to get into the scene.
And if you did want to compare aus comps to overseas, most tournaments have rego fees upwards of $40-50 per player such as in europe and every single comp in America (and thats in US $$ too), so we should be counting ourselves lucky.
If they really played for fun, they’d put in the time and effort to get better. “But why would they do this if they just play for fun?” That’s exactly why, because they have fun just by playing the game. They’d play at every opportunity they got and wouldn’t bitch about how they’re “just going to lose” because that doesn’t matter, they’re still having fun. They’d join a team and play with that team, because having a team means more games, and if it was really true that they played the game for the enjoyment they receive from it, they’d take that opportunity to make a team and play more games. But they don’t. They don’t because they don’t really play the game just for fun, they just like winning.
They play to inflate their own little ego. Why else do you think they enjoy amateur comps more? Everyone knows that playing against and watching better competition is the key to improvement, so why do they want to play lesser skilled teams? Simple: they want to win. What’s important to these dipshits isn’t improvement, its winning. Winning for them feels good, even if it IS against shit players because at least then they can say, “I’m better than these guys and I only play for fun! I’m the greatest!” They won’t make a real team and attend a bunch of competitions where they get fisted, but don’t even care because they saw improvement in themselves and still had fun. That would be too hard and they’re too lazy and too busy telling everyone that they could be good instead of getting good. With that said I think it’s important to point out that fun and improvement go hand in hand.
The better you get at something, the more fun it becomes. Any true musician will tell you this. As you get better, you realize just how much you can do. But it isn’t the thought of being the best that gives you a thrill. You’re still having fun just playing. Except now, you can play in ways you never even could have imagined the first time you played. It’s like you have a whole new instrument to play with.
So to all those people who spurt out those bullshit phrases like, “I could be good but I just play for fun.” And, “you’re only good because you play with a team and you play more often than me.” Just take a moment to think about what you’re about to say. You know all you’re doing by saying it is protecting your own ego, because you know you don’t play for fun you play because you like to win. So when you don’t win, you get shitty
i feel burnt out when i play too much in spaces of a week - a month.
Nearly all of the teams at the div2 comp were slut teams, (most of melbournes lanners are in some form of "group" or mix of people who occasionally scrim/ipgn) - but the reason they went was because they thought they had a chance to win a few games, if not win all of them. The reason this open comp won't see the numbers the div2 comp did is because these middle tier slut teams can't see any benefit in attending. And Dave these slut teams don't play to improve, they play for fun.
The key to numbers therefore, is REAL teams, the skill level is irrelevant.
but as jon said, if they genuinely played to 'play for fun' then they would be playing this and any comp, as they would play without caring of winning or losing. But they don't, because they play to win, or atleast have their 'fun' by winning, so that just isnt true.
Improvement, winning, and fun all go hand in hand aswell, its a shame they are unnable to realise that.
and thats why they don't seem to be signing up, but maybe if more lower tier teams signed up it might spark some of the "play to win or don't play at all" players haha
Having said that, I do agree that for the people who do stick around and play most comps but are just doing it 'for fun', that can't be true in a sense that, yes you're playing the game for fun, but it doesn't mean you're not putting in effort to better yourself at the game. Who would want to stick around and play the game but get smashed every time because of the lack of effort they put in?
Just saying.
Peace out dudes.
apparently no dreamRs accepted though
Think what dave/others are saying if teams really played for fun why do they care about the results of some random LAN comp whether it be open or amateur
Hence why I'm wanting to play this Sunday and get smashed :D:D:D
- dreamR's team
- rumeboys?
- PowerCrunch
- jonske/cron1c team
Playing to win and consistently improving to achieve that goal is a positive thing. However if you're playing to win and you do not try to improve, then that's just trying to get the easy way out.
So for all those new teams contemplating joining this comp or not, I say set realistic goals. Come to the tournment with the aim to be competitive (i.e aim to get atleast 10 rounds before you lose to a team and aim not to get smashed 16-0). If you can achieve this, then in a sense you have won your own battle.
If you're one of those players that hardly has time to play the game and want to win. I say take the same approach as you're definately not going to beat teams who have practiced alot but if you give them a tough game then atleast you can walk away from the comp knowing that you put up a fight.
I AM SO KEEN TO CS RIGHT NOW ..... -5 streak on ipgn ftl
