CSPromod: Your Opinions
 Author :

The official BETA version of CSPromod is out, and for those who haven't tried it, we've made a local mirror for faster download - get CSPromod BETA 1.04 here. Additional mirrors can be found on the CSP website.

For me the movement is still off and the sounds are still too much of a change coming from 1.6, but I guess compromises have to be made, so I am yet to pass judgement until a scrim is to be had on the BETA.

But for those who already have had a few hours and experienced it in a semi competitive environment via pug, what are your opinions of the release? Fan or not?

i thought the release was great - keeping in mind that its a beta.

Theres still a ways to go, with many things that need fixing/changing/improving (some minor, some major). Thankfully the majority of these the dev team is fully aware of and will do down the track if they havent started doing them already.

I think right off the bat its already a FAR superior game to CSS, even in its current form.

future releases should be great, + theres a vid coming out in the next day or 2 of their current progress on models/animations which i cant wait for :D

im on the fence tbh. the movement and the sounds are too different to 1.6 for me. The recoil, wall spam, flashes and nades are much better though. If you tap crouch twice quickly it grinds you to a standstill. I don't know about you but if I don't 1b or 2b someone it takes 20 bullets to kill them because of the recoil. The models are also pretty bad as well :<
Other than that it is a much improved beta. Hopefully next beta will be much sooner and will fix some of the underlying issues.

I haven't played it yet but from the comments above + article - It's only going to get better and it's just another game that will take 1 day of DM to get use to. If people are going to be so picky because the recoil is different the game will go no where.

Just had a run through pub with it, it's a bit of an improvement from the earlier 1.04 beta i had but i mostly agree with albz the double tapping crouch and jumping slow down combined with models makes the movement sort of feel like source. I played it with no sound so couldnt comment on that, also when you kill someone and look somewhere bright like the sky in d2 the font is fuzzy.

Angles are also a bit different only played d2 just now and you can crouch while watching long crossover from short box area because the ledge is shorter than 1.6 d2 also you can watch t spawn from short since that little gap is quite bigger. Little things like this add up but I agree that it is a great start especially when changed models come out soon.

but saik... those things are tend to change and that means you actually have something to learn instead of doing and knowing every single angle for 4 years straight without having to learn a thing. That's why I love playing all new games.. It might change I have no idea but if those things don't change is it REALLLLLYY a big thing?

Thats true, it was more of an observation but that sort of came out as criticism. I just like 1.6 lots :D There's just some minor differences there but models and movements will hopefully be improved together and itll all be good.

Might make a note of all the changes later i notice later.

haha those animations look sick
11.
 01/02/10 10:28am
its ok.. just a hybrid between the two games.. they should have waited to bundle the 1.6 animations because they look very good

will be interesting to spectate 1.6 vs css wars on promod

alot of the angles will be different in promod beta 1.04 because of the source models as its been said. I noticed a few boxes that you couldn't peak over on inferno 1.6 you could because of the height etc. Its a bit dodgy.
They better get the models out fast imo.

Can't really judge on much else, except sound was weird, not 1.6 or source.

For some reason I was getting 55tick in and 100 tick out, and also the pug I played died at half point and players left randomly through 1st half, so yeh not much time to lay judgement yet. Although I kinda like what I saw.

-scoreboard is too cluttered, good concept but they might need to add another content board or something (imo remove score, errors, etc and only display at the end of a match)
-> player models on the GUI might change colour or get cut in half depending on hp
- rego is still very poor
- models obviously make this not comp ready cause you can see over things just standing up that you shouldn't
- too much delay on crouch, movement is still a touch sluggish changing directions

very close to good though, models and netcode and it would be comp playable.

i dont mind if recoil is slightly different as long as its consistent and relative to the size of the models

#4 dont judge any of the angles (specifically height-related ones) as they are completely to do with the currenty veiwhight and size of the models. this is known and will be fixed in 1.05 with the release of new models + animations
15.
 01/02/10 11:04am
agreed the scoreboard is way too messy an option is needed to turn all that shit off

it seems like a good step forward but and everybody should at least give it a shot to form their own opinions
16.
 01/02/10 11:09am
and yeh agree with scoreboard comments, i find it literally impossible to tell when someone is dead unless i hold it there for 10 seconds looking - pretty sure im never gonna look at errors either so that is kinda useless imo
17.
 01/02/10 11:11am
has the source look but the 1.6 feel. Love how you can customize 1.6 settings..
dunno about the scoreboard its so big :P. models are very weird.

1.6 flashes!!!

good so far :D
18.
 01/02/10 12:32pm
ahahhaha that should stop you crouch bobbing+silent run.

19.
 01/02/10 12:44pm
Forgot to mention the scoreboard, it'd be nice if you could disable columns like errors and score and just make it customizable. I always think score - kills column are kills - deaths now.

thing about it is, you still have that 'big' feeling like in source, when u (the model) feel alot bigger than everything (boxes, etc) compared to 1.6, dno if that will change with the 1.05 models but mm if it doesn't, fail.
22.
 01/02/10 02:05pm
#21 thats entirely to do wiht the models and will be changed with 1.05

sweet.
also the nades look HUGE when theyre thrown, and rolling away lol. but overall its a huge improvement over the last betas(and source:D) but the models kill it. bULlEtPrOoF awAIts 1.05. -Also surprised at the amount of servers that are up atm, compared to 5am this morning. keen

 01/02/10 02:30pm
i agree with #1 pretty good so far i like it more then cs:s needs some small fixes like sound models etc.. def on the right track
25.
 01/02/10 04:01pm
I wish they waited for the models to release it, would have fixed so many issues.

awp is OP cause models are huge
recoil is minimised cause models are huge
maps/boxes are too small cause models are huge

if they had the models we could probably move straight to csp now, put up with the bits that arent finished like netcode and movement in the meantime regardless.

anyone thinking of swapping to csp?

Once the models are fixed and all the guns are built, I'm more then happy to move over. The problem is teh dickheads like albz and saik who because they can't control recoil exactly like 1.6, or the angles are slightly different they complain.

Crouch bopping is shit, so fuck that bug. Bopping is an exploit of a game that destroys it, its just the 1.6ers crying that they can't run around bopping and be unhittable.

P.S. I don't play source... you guys just love 1.6 too much.
30.
 01/02/10 06:24pm
Once they fixed the models its perfect, aim is great and feels like 1.6 its just the models lacking.
31.
 01/02/10 06:35pm
net_graph 4 is cool beans and being able to shoot straight away after putting a silencer on and qq'ing is pretty neat
watching the sourcers try to do common spam spots for us is great fun and the maps look sweet =D
thumbs up
but it has obvious issues with the models as mentioned and the scoreboard is unnecessarily cluttered
32.
 01/02/10 08:08pm
loving it to be honest. but this coming from a person who never once played source.
theres a few things need to be changed IMO.
- be able to double bind buttons to keys
- crouch is a bit sluggish when standing back up

few others cant think of right now but overall i really enjoying it. look forward to new models and shit though 1.05 will be really good, personally ill probably continue to play this over 1.6 now. more fun and such
33.
 01/02/10 08:19pm
the ingame sounds are really bad i reckon using source sounds still i cant tell where anything is

geez after 10 years of cs - aspects of CS:P is quite surprising; pretty much all have already been pointed out, the future looks good for CS, just hopefully the slight fixes be done quick, and hopefully competitive scene heats up - equally the people running the show get their act together and not split up the damn cs scene again.

overall using the old PCGAMER rating 92/100
35.
 01/02/10 09:04pm
i think as soon as the models are there it will be playable and useable! it seems pretty good.. pretty lol sitting in banana standing and picking over the halfway box
36.
 01/02/10 09:05pm
btw victor you can, if you type the bind into console you can have more than one key bound
37.
 01/02/10 09:23pm
my opinion - apart from models, this game is FUCKING INSANEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
38.
 02/02/10 10:09am
Bottom line is its change from the game most of us have played for over 2+ years so its obviously going to feel different, personally i like and am really looking forward to when they bring 1.05 out.
39.
 02/02/10 01:02pm
i reckon when they bring out 1.05 it would just about be competition ready (assuming the movement is fixed with the smaller models)
